Every once in a while, we receive a message that completely stops us in our tracks.
Not because it’s polished or curated or “perfect for social media.”
But because it’s real.
Raw, exhausted, emotional parenthood kind of real.
Recently, a mom reached out to us from Australia while sitting in the hospital with her 7-month-old son who was battling RSV… while also cutting teeth at the same time.
And honestly? You could feel the exhaustion through the screen.
RSV, Teething, and a Baby Who Just Needed Comfort
If you’ve ever had a sick baby, you already know — when they’re uncomfortable, everything feels harder.
Sleep disappears.
You feel helpless.
And suddenly you’re trying absolutely anything just to bring them even a little relief.
Her little boy had tubing in at the hospital, and his hands had been wrapped to stop him from pulling anything out. But because he was teething, he started chewing and sucking on the bandages constantly trying to soothe his gums.
That’s when she found the Munch Mitt®.
And in her words:
“To be honest I thought it might have been a bit of a gimmick and it probably wouldn’t help… but desperate mums will try anything to help their babies. BOY WAS I WRONG.”
Honestly, we laughed and cried reading that part.
Because we get it. There are SO many baby products out there promising miracles. Parents are understandably skeptical.
But this message reminded us of something really important:
sometimes the smallest comforts end up making the biggest difference.
Why Babies Struggle So Much With Teething During Illness
Teething alone can make babies miserable.
Now add:
- congestion
- disrupted sleep
- hospital environments
- discomfort from medical equipment
- being unable to self-soothe normally
…and it becomes overwhelming fast.
Babies naturally chew to regulate, comfort themselves, and relieve pressure in their gums. When that ability is taken away — like having hands wrapped or limited movement — frustration can escalate quickly.
For this little guy, having access to something safe and soothing to chew made all the difference.
The Part We Can’t Stop Thinking About
What stayed with us most wasn’t even the product itself.
It was this line:
“He’s had less pain relief medicine too I think.”
As parents, that’s everything.
Not because there’s anything wrong with medication when babies need it — absolutely not. But because every parent just wants to ease their baby’s discomfort in whatever safe ways they can.
Sometimes relief looks like medicine.
Sometimes it looks like sleep.
And sometimes it looks like a tiny silicone mitt in a hospital room.
To the Moms in the Hard Seasons Right Now
Whether your baby is teething, sick, not sleeping, extra clingy, or all of the above at once — we see you.
Parenthood can feel incredibly isolating in those moments, especially at 3am in a hospital chair or pacing the hallway with a crying baby who simply can’t settle.
And while no product fixes everything, we’re incredibly grateful anytime one of our products helps make a hard day even slightly easier.
That’s always been the goal.
Why Parents Love the Munch Mitt®
The Munch Mitt® was designed specifically for babies who constantly chew on their hands while teething.
Parents love it because:
- babies can self-soothe more easily
- it stays attached to little hands
- textured silicone helps massage sore gums
- it can help reduce frustration during teething
- it’s especially helpful for babies who struggle holding traditional teethers
And apparently… even hospital bandages don’t stand a chance against it 🤍
